Bathroom Meter: During the movie? 3.5 stars. I definitely took a stroll to the bathroom and didn’t miss much. But in retrospect? 4 stars.
It’s one of those movies that drags on a bit, giving you a long, intimate look into the lives of several royally fucked-up people. While you’re watching, you think, “If they would’ve cut out another 15 minutes, it would’ve been perfect.”
But after the fact, when you step out into the real world, all you want to do is go back and sit in that theater again and immerse yourself in the movie. Maybe it’s just the amazing soundtrack.
Based on the Swedish novel Snabba Cash. A poor college student gets involved in drug running to fund his desire to mingle with Stockholm’s wealthy elite. Naturally, all hell breaks loose.
The film was released in Sweden way back in 2010, but it’s only just now making its way to the United States. The Swedish sequel has actually already been filmed and will be released there next month.
Warner Bros. has rights to the American remake. Zac Efron will produce and star in the remake.
Have I sat down to watch it? Yes,
Have I theater-watched it? No. It isn’t playing at my theater. If it were though, I’d be theater-watching the hell out of it.
I don’t know about you, but I think the trailer for Easy Money is one of the best I’ve ever seen:
See it or not? Yes. But lower your expectations slightly. It’s not the fast-paced, intense, on-the-edge-of-your-seat-every-second kind of thriller that we’re used to from the Swedes. (And the Norwegians.)
Don’t go in it expecting the magic that was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It’s really more of a character study.
Do go in it expecting great acting, gorgeous shots, and a badass soundtrack. If you’re like me and you watched The Social Network over and over just for the soundtrack, then you will LOVE this movie. Guaranteed. It’s damn hypnotic.
